We are run by a volunteer board of directors that set out the rules, regulations, and direction for the market. If you are interested in becoming a board member, please contact us. Strathmore Farmers' Market was established in 1997. Its first home was the Strathmore & District Ag Society Exhibition Grounds. After a few years there, it moved to the parking lot at Kinsmen Park. In 2006, the market moved back to the Exhibition Grounds. Strathmore Farmers' Market Rules Click here to download our summer market Guidelines and Procedures. Strathmore History Strathmore has a proud and unique food-production heritage. In his forward for the Strathmore history book, Strathmore: The Village That Moved, R. S. Allision, then president of CP Rail, wrote, "Strathmore was where the first and most famous of the CPR demonstration farms was established, where the prize-winning Holstein herd flourished, where food and flowers for the tables of the railway dining cars, stations, and hotels were produced for more than 40 years." See the page here.
"Strathmore -- Supply Farm: Strathmore is the headquarters of the Western section of the Canadian Pacific irrigation system. It has a large supply farm operated by the Canadian Pacific, which supplies, from its own production and by purchase from surrounding farmers, the Western dining car system and hotels of the Company with cream, butter, eggs, poultry, vegetables and other commodities." Excerpt from "ACROSS CANADA BY C. P. R.", Section 4--The Prairie Provinces; booklet, McGill University Illustrated Lectures, 1928. I encourage you to visit the www.ourfutureourpast.ca Local Histories section to learn more about Strathmore's grand heritage. (Search for the exact phrase "supply farm" in the text and "Strathmore" in the subject.) With respect for Strathmore's past, the Strathmore Farmers' Market uses the famous CPR Supply Farm No.1barn in the background of its logo to challenge us to become, once again, famous for our vegetables and other food items.
